Pokemon Go

pokemon go

Well here I am writing about a topic that has taken the world by storm and created some controversy too…

Pokemon have not been anything big in our house although our neurotypical son has some cards that he trades with his friends, so when this new game came out it was of no huge interest to me but I have followed the views and perspectives of many and have found it very interesting…

“Did you know the creator of Pokemon, ya know the guy who made a game 20+ years ago based on bug collecting. The guy who has made billions of dollars since then. The guy who has won countless awards. The guy whose game has led to movies. The guy who currently has done something no internet sensation has ever done….passed porn for popularity. The guy who currently has everyone running around like junkies and is the hottest trending thing today.” – Unknown

This amazing guy…. HAS AUTISM.

Yes, Saisho has shown the world that Autism does come with great abilities and with determination anything can be achieved…

Now this may change some peoples thoughts on what value there is when the story behind the creation is awesome, but there is more to this than many can see beyond the craze that has become the centre of attention on all kinds of media, as what many do not see amongst the lack of responsibility that goes with any kind of creations like this is the amount of stories I have seen about how it is changing the lives of so many families…

There is children with Autism that don’t leave the house. There are children with Autism that don’t know how to connect with their peers.  There is children with Autism that parents struggle with getting them to exercise. This amazing game has created opportunities to capture all these areas while giving these children something else to focus on. It has opened the door to leave the house without the obstacles that normally present. It has taken down the communication boundaries that often exist as there is a common interest and understanding of what others are doing. It has encouraged these children to nurture themselves on a physical level as they are out looking for these creatures.  It has provided joy to parents that they may have not seen before.

Is this the solution for everyone or will it be of value to all children and families living with autism – most probably not but for me even though we are yet to engage in this amazing phenomenon that has hit the world of IT I do believe it is something that is worth looking into if it is going create gains for everyone in your family which is something I had not considered until reading or the stories that have been shared…

Now what I would love is if your family has already embraced this great phenomenon to share your experiences and the value it has had for your family…
