Continuing to Honor Carers

You are amazing

With National Carers Week over in Australia,
it does not mean the recognition should end here…

It should be the beginning of continued celebrations every day of the year. In my eyes each and every one of you are unsung heroes. With the obstacles you face, the challenges you endure, every day you still get up to embrace the world to provide the best you can for you children with Autism…  It is a job that you did not apply for, a role that you did not see on the horizon and the financial reward is crap. What is amazing amongst this is that we have been blessed with these beautiful children which all have their very own unique gifts…

Being a Carer comes with high demands.  Yes, it’s something you do, even though you may not always want to…  It’s  a job that is often 24/7, juggling the needs of everyone, which leads to little time for you…  Something, that in the desire to provide the best for your child is often forgotten.  Being a carer you tend to become very focused on ensuring your child is provided for in the best way possible, while failing to acknowledge your needs as an Individual, Wife, Mum, Husband, Dad or Partner let alone the needs of your other children…

Life becomes quite demanding and often I see parents that don’t know which way to turn to achieve what they need, let alone that feeling like you are doing it all alone… The people that you used to connect, with no longer understand your world is very different then it was before, and the parenting skills you thought you had, have been thrown out the door… The manual that is believed to come with kids does not exist and if it does we clearly all got the wrong one. Bless the person who has ours, as no doubt they will be struggling too… Instead we have been given a gift to unwrap in whatever way we choose, to not only provide the best for our children, to also become the best version of ourselves.

It’s a path that has given us a tour guide that will take us places we have never been and often places we never intended to go either, but at the end of the day our love for this child as their Mother, Father or Primary Carer will still be as great as any of our children. It’s about having the persistence, determination, courage, perseverance, will power, strength, endurance and patience to continue no matter what obstacles may appear… It’s knowing that you have your eyes set on a goal and when all the stars align – whatever they may be at the time that you will open the door to the opportunity you have been manifesting for some time…

It’s definately no easy gig and not for the faint hearted. Sometimes it will feel like there is more lows than highs, that consume you, making you feel like you are drowning in a world of unknown. Then out of the blue something amazing happens your child with Autism provides you with the greatest reward of all – achieving a milestone. Milestones that can be big or small. Milestones that are often miles apart, but that feeling that comes from within knowing all the hard work you have put in has paid off, is the best gift you could ask for…

This is one of my passions and a key focus in all that I do.  I feel that it is an area that needs more understanding and emphasis no matter where you are on this journey and with support and guidance you can discover your full potential, as well as the benefits of taking care of you and your Mental, Physical and Emotional Well-being too… You are at the heart of this journey and you are more important than you give yourself credit for, which is why it’s time to reward you for the amazing job that you do as a Carer who invests every possible moment in your child to assist them in achieving their potential…

It’s not something that can be put away when you have had enough. It is an ongoing journey of continuous building, exploring, learning, nurturing, resolving, loving, gaining and honoring you for the amazing job that you do should always be part of this… It’s time you to acknowledge this and I feel it’s time more people in all of our communities no matter where you are throughout the globe are more aware of this too… To do this we need to provide more education by being out in our communities more and sharing the struggles we endure in reducing isolation for ourselves, ASD Child and Family…
